Where have all the VP's gone?

MPE General Manager Steve Richeson recently published the article "A Part of the Problem" on Marketingprofs.com. Steve explores the dynamics that have lead to a change in the way companies build their executive teams, and its effect on all of those former VP's.

Small to mid-sized firms, having realized that they have to restart their marketing efforts, soon discover that they cannot afford a full-time executive. This "New Economy" model turns out to be the result of some very "Old Economy" ways of looking at businesses.

MPE consultants are working with clients around the world to help them solve tactical, strategic and structural problems with their businesses. We have established new revenue channels for clients, closed business in new markets, and elevated the position of client firms from "also-rans" to "industry players".

   Dear Steve,

MPE clients set the tone for a great 2003 during the first three quarters. Our clients and principal consultants have traveled the world to bring top-notch product and executives together at appropriate and affordable levels of engagement.

Take a quick read of some examples of how our pool of seasoned executives can help businesses of any size market, manage, and grow in even the toughest economic environment.

  • Hey, is that the new $20?
  •    Ever wonder if there's any money in currency? What sounds like a paradox is actually an important question for an MPE client from Switzerland. The client is launching a new multi-currency counterfeit detection device in the US this year. MPE is providing business development and channel management services to the firm.

Counterfeit currency is not the most unusual area we have supported. But it brings up some interesting challenges - Like - "How do you demo this thing without getting arrested?" Our client has already established the product with central banks in Asia, and MPE is helping them bring it here to help US banks, casinos, and retailers make sure that those C-notes, 500 Euro and $20CAN notes are legal tender.

  • Re-starts versus start-ups
  •    An MPE interim executive is helping a public company in Silicon Valley through some tough "re-start" changes. So tough that it required trips to West African nations to resolve long-standing issues with customers and get the revenue results the client needed.

Re-start interim executives know how to solve problems while looking toward the future. This is different from turnaround executives who are there simply to "stop the bleeding". MPE has solid re-start teams available across a wide range of industry sectors. Our affiliate list grows daily, and has some impressive members.

  • Movin' on up!
  •    MPE moved into new offices in September 2003. Our new space at "Technology Square" on the Georgia Tech campus in mid-town Atlanta is recognized for being a pedestrian friendly area (unique in Atlanta.)

We are co-located with Georgia Tech's Advanced Technology Development Center. MPE recently sponsored the first "open house" at the new facility. Our Australian client's "coola can" was a big hit, and kept the beer at a frosty 3.5C all evening.

  • Robots meet Rocket Science
  •    An MPE client in Atlanta (yes, we have local clients) makes one of those products that makes engineers say "Wow!" and their more right brained partners say, "So what?" One of MPE's challenges was to make the product understandable by target customers, who were generally not engineers.

MPE worked out a simplified messaging strategy and did a low cost web site redesign including video footage of a "yo-yo" demo that showed the sophistication of the client's software algorithms in a form that non- engineers could understand.

  •    MPE is growing in scope and depth of practice. Our specialty is appropriate and affordable levels of executive engagement to drive new business for client firms. MPE consultants and affiliates can help your company compete at the same level with firms that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on marketing and business development executives.

MPE clients are extremely pleased with the results they get from "shared" executives. The savings are obvious; the benefits come over time. The only regret we have heard is "I wish we had started this sooner, I'm not sure what we were waiting for."
